Tech-Death Icons GOROD Reveal Epic, Cinematic Music Video for “Bekhten’s Curse”

Technical metal icons Gorod have released their brand new 10-track album, Aethra, today via Overpowered Records! The album can be ordered digitally via Amazon, iTunes and Google Play, and in several physical formats via Overpowered Records‘ merchandise site HERE.

In celebration of today’s release, Gorod have revealed an epic, cinematic music video for the track “Bekhten’s Curse”, produced by Disclosure Productions and available to view now via Revolver HERE.

Vocalist Julien Deyres tells Revolver: “Out of all of the songs on the album, these lyrics required the most research. I am not at all a specialist in Egyptian antiquity, but in doing my research on lunar deities I discovered this extraordinary story about a so-called miraculous healing of Ramesses II‘s sister-in-law. This legend is engraved on a stela that is currently in the Louvre Museum and is a proven historical fake. In this song, I am playing the role of a Bekhten’s city survivor, which was completely destroyed to restore a form of eventual reality… because way too often, popular legends such as this one were created to hide misdeeds by those who have the power and wish to be considered as heroes…”

Behind-the-scenes videos from Gorod:

Aethra

Produced and recorded by Gorod guitarist/mastermind Mathieu Pascal in his own Bud Studio, mixed at Dugout Studio by the outstanding Daniel Bergstrand (Meshuggah, Behemoth, Decapitated, In Flames) and mastered by Lawrence Mackrory at Obey Mastering (Decapitated, Nightrage), Aethra is a profound progression in terms of production, songwriting and arrangements.

With Aethra, Gorod transports the listener to a tragic and melancholic universe – a completely new level of darkness – while preserving what Gorod considers their tried and true core sound: incomparable groove, remarkable dexterity, and relentless technicality. But all the while, the band never sacrifices earworm hooks and unforgettable riffage.

Nearly 15 years into a career in which everything they’ve accomplished was earned and nothing was taken for granted, Incite bridges the gap between various metal sub-genres, but one thing is for certain – you will be banging your head in no time. This is a band who will open for Gorgoroth one night and Cancer Bats the next, converting true-believers out of everyone who crosses their path.

As renegade disciples of trailblazing metal architects like Pantera, Slayer, Sepultura, and Machine Head, Incite raises the torch for trend-killing and hipster-smashing metal. Incite is as much a part of the fabric of the style championed by Lamb of God as the surge of newer bands like Power Trip. Incite perfected their signature brand of extreme sounds by playing shows with DevilDriver, Crowbar, Brujeria, Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy, and Six Feet Under.

Tilian (Pearson) Releases Third Solo Album, The Skeptic — Out Today Via Rise Records

Los Angeles — Tilian (Pearson)’s highly-anticipated third full-length studio album, The Skepticis out today! The Dance Gavin Dance frontman’s 10-track effort is his first solo release with Rise Records and serves as a follow up to his previous work, Material Me (LP, 2013), Future Friends (EP, 2014), Perfect Enemy (LP, 2015), and most recently, the Patient EP (2017). Prior to creating DGD’s latest offering, Artificial Selection, Tilian retreated to Portland for three weeks to record The Skeptic with producer and frequent collaborator, Kris Crummett. The result is a solid blend of pop-punk and indie-pop anthems that highlight Tilian’s powerhouse vocals and heartfelt, raw songwriting.

The Skeptic Track Listing:

1. Made of Plastic
2. Cocky
3. Gone
4. Handsome Garbage
5. Hold On
6. Blame It On Rock n Roll
7. Let Her Go
8. Drunken Conversations
9. Right Side
10. Ghost Town

Fans can stream and download The Skeptic on SpotifyApple MusicAmazon, and other digital retailers HERE.

The Skeptic signifies a formative chapter in Tilian’s career where the more questions he asked, the more inspiration he found. The Florida-born, Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer continues his existential search on this record. “Musically and in my personal life, I kept thinking, ‘I’ve got to find and explore some new ground,’ ” says Tilian. “I’ve always been so much more questioning than most people around me are. I never really bought into things the way 90% of the crowd does. That sentiment communicated the idea of The Skeptic to me,” he adds.

As Tilian continues to pose questions on his journey, he has a better grasp on himself as an artist than ever before, and that ultimately shines through on The Skeptic. “I’m optimistic and excited,” he notes. “I’ve been through the ringer, but I’ve had a pretty awesome and fortunate life. The whole journey is ongoing, and I get to be responsible for it.”

CHEVELLE Announces New Album, 12 Bloody Spies: B-Sides and Rarities, Set for Release on October 26

Today, multi-platinum, acclaimed alternative rock band Chevelle have announced a new album, 12 Bloody Spies: B-Sides and Rarities, compiling sought-after B-Sides and rarities from 2002-2016, now remastered on one brand new collection for the very first time. Set for release on October 26, 2018, the album is now available for pre-order via Epic Records. Get it HERE!

The album pre-order unlocks the single “Sleep Walking Elite.” Originally recorded during the sessions for 2007’s Vena Sera, thick riffing drives the track, providing the perfect counterpoint to a hauntingly hypnotic hook. With its delicate push-and-pull between robust distortion and dynamic melody, it stands out as classic Chevelle.

The project’s full collection spans everything from an acoustic version of “Sleep Apnea” off 2009’s Sci-Fi Crimes to an unearthed bonus track off the now-classic Wonder What’s Next entitled “Until You’re Reformed” and “A Miracle” recorded as a bonus track for The North Corridor in 2016. It’s essential listening for fans to say the least.

Celtic Metal Vocalist LEAH Reveals Powerful New Track, “Edge of Your Sword”, Featuring Members of Delain, Orphaned Land and Blind Guardian

Symphonic/Celtic vocalist LEAH – described affectionately by her fans as “the metal Enya” – recently announced the release of her upcoming full-length album, The Quest, out Friday, October 5. The album features a stronger Celtic and Fantasy connection in comparison to her previous release, Kings & Queens, as well as prog rock elements and ethereal ambiance, combined with traditional symphonic metal elements. The album is available for pre-order HERE

Today, LEAH is pleased to reveal a new track from The Quest, entitled “Edge of Your Sword“.

Check out the brand new lyric video HERE

LEAH says about the track: “This track was interesting to write… it was inspired by a mood, more than anything else – medieval rock vibes with a bit of spice. I hope those vibes get passed onto the listener! Some of that spice is attributed to Chen Balbus (Orphaned Land) who added the middle eastern saz on the track, which gave it a really cool and unexpected flavour! Also on the track is Barend Courbois (Blind Guardian) playing bass, Timo Somers (Delain) playing rhythm guitars (with an epic solo!), and Sander Zoer (ex-Delain) on Drums and percussion. Oliver Philipps (Everon, Phantasma) added a ton of orchestration which really beefed the whole sound up.

My part in it was composing the song, playing a lot of the keys, harps, synths, arrangements, lyrics, and of course vocals. I was actually scared out of my mind about that high note in the last chorus! I knew I could technically execute it, but was mentally blocked for some time about it. I had to do weird things in the vocal booth to overcome my vocal mental block, such as drawing an arrow pointing down on a piece of paper that I could look at, also using physical gestures when I went to sing it, such as pointing to the ground with my hands. The reason is because when you go to sing a high note, most singers tend to tense up and squeeze their vocal chords up, which make a horrible tone and tense up the voice. So, to overcome that default tendency, I had to convince my brain that I was actually singing lower and it would get easier, not harder. And when that note came out, it actually was a piece of cake! Amazing how the mind works!”

LEAH is recognized in the music world for her work with established heavy metal musicians such as Eric Peterson of Testament and Dragonlord, Timo Somers of Delain, Troy Donockly of Nightwish and many others. To date, LEAH has released three albums, Of Earth & Angels [2012], Otherworld [2013], and Kings & Queens [2015], as well as several viral videos. Her latest video features an ethereal cover of “The Dragonborn Comes“, the main theme from the massive video game Skyrim. The video has racked up 5.3 million views on Facebook and nearly 600,000 views on YouTube to date.

As mentioned in her comment above, in addition to LEAH‘s own vocals, keys, and orchestrations on The Quest, the album features an impressive international cast of guest musicians – including Troy Donockley of Nightwish on pipes and flutes, Barend Courbois of Blind Guardian on bass guitar, Timo Somers of Delain on rhythm and lead guitars, Sander Zoer formerly of Delain on drums and percussion and Chen Balbus of Orphaned Land on Middle Eastern Saz and Oud. The album features mixing and mastering from Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Epica, Amaranthe), as well as orchestration, arrangement and production from Oliver Philipps (Everon, Phantasma, Delain).

I am totally delighted to work with the guest musicians on this album. Each and every individual is an expert at what they do, and I only wanted the best for these songs, as we were developing toward a very specific sound, which was a rock/metal album with a Celtic and fantasy twist,” says LEAH. “This album was truly an international effort!

Her debut self-released album Of Earth & Angels received international critical acclaim, including landing the “The Best Symphonic Metal AlbumMetalstorm Award for 2012. Her 2013 release, Otherworld, is a five-song Celtic-metal masterpiece, mixed by ChristianMoschusMoos at SPACELAB in Germany (Delain, Everon, Imperia) and features the vocals of guitar legend Eric Peterson (Testament/Dragonlord) on the ethereal metal track “Dreamland“. 2014 was very successful year for LEAH as she raised over $27,000 through Indiegogo via her fans to record and produce her heaviest album, Kings & Queens, which was eventually released in early 2015 through Inner Wound Recordings. The album received dozens of four and five-star reviews, and helped her gain thousands of new fans around the world.

Most recently, LEAH raised over $87,000 in 30 days via Indiegogo and her shop to launch The Quest, again released via her own independent record label, Ex Cathedra Records, along with Inner Wound Recordings. Dominion is a dark fantasy fan’s musical dream – exploring everything from Nordic history to Lord of the Rings! Dominion‘s eight songs create a deep and heady musical journey rife with meaning and menace, from the blackest and loudest recesses of Eric Peterson‘s mind.

Peterson recorded Dominion at Northern California’s Trident Studios and produced it with an assist from engineer/mixer Juan Urteaga (Testament, Machine Head, M.O.D.). Dominion was mastered by famed producer/engineer Jens Bogren of Fascination Street Studios in Sweden. In addition to Eric Peterson, Dominion features the musical talents of Lyle Livingston (Psypheria) on orchestrated keys and pianos, Alex Bent (Trivium) on drums, and notable fantasy metal singer Leah on female vocals and choirs (who has performed/recorded with members of Blind Guardian, Nightwish, Delain, and others).

Peterson formed Dragonlord in 2000 as its singer and guitarist (with keyboardist Lyle Livingston and now-ex-members Steve Di Giorgio of Testament and Jon Allen of Sadus), and notes that the growth from Dragonlord‘s first two records to the cinematic triumph and brutal blast-beats of Dominion has been immense. Dominion‘s stellar, complex, brutally symphonic metal is triumphant in its execution, bringing together layers of meaning and musicality into an unholy whole.

LULLWATER Releases Stunning Cover of PEARL JAM’s “Release”

Athens, GA based alternative rock band Lullwater has released the official music video for their cover of Pearl Jam’s “Release,” off of the 1991 hit album TEN. Originally premiered on Loudwire, “Release” features live Footage with Dave Krusen (Pearl JamCandlebox) and Kevin Martin (Candlebox), and was recorded at London Bridge Studios in Seattle, WA, where TEN was originally recorded, with engineering and mixing by Justin Davis.

“The entire experience of recording Pearl Jam’s ‘Release’ in London Bridge Studios was so surreal. Pearl Jam is one of my favorite bands and to cover that song in the same room as they did, was very emotional for me. I had no idea that a couple of years later we would be performing it live with Dave Krusen and Kevin Martin on the Candlebox tour; it’s such an odd and incredible feeling of living and experiencing the moments we’ve made because of ‘Release.’ It’s by far the coolest thing that’s ever happened to me as a musician. Thinking back to when I was in my adolescent years playing that song over and over and then one day to be performing it live with the original drummer, is simply crazy for me. ‘Release’ has a special place in my heart and is one of my favorite songs to play live.” – John Strickland (Vocals/Guitar)

Lullwater

For more than a decade, alt rockers Lullwater have been blazing their way to the top of the industry thanks to their gritty, Southern-infused sound and straight-up, raw performances.

Formed in 2007 in Athens, GA, the foursome was born from the indelible mark that the godfathers of grunge left on music. The convergence of this inspiration, mixed with a healthy helping of swagger, defines this critically acclaimed alternative rock band.

Lullwater album cover

The group released its debut, self-titled album in 2012 to solid reviews and were immediately invited to join some of the biggest tours that same year, as well as had the single “Albatross” featured on Sirius XM Octane Radio. Since that time, Lullwater has spent the majority of their career on the road sharing the stage with such A-list acts as CandleboxTheory of a DeadmanFlyleafPassafireAmarantheButcher Babies, and more. The band released their critically acclaimed sophomore album, Revival, in 2015, followed by a live EP, The Seattle Sessions, in 2017.

Voodoo, their latest effort and arguably their best work to date, was recorded at the end of 2017 in New Orleans at Marigny Studios by Swedish producer and engineer Jakob Herrmann, co-produced/engineered by Justin Davis, and mixed by Jakob Herrmann at top floor studios, is scheduled for a Winter 2018 release; this record promises an even bigger, more explosive sound that will shake you to your core.

Multi-platinum Hip-hop Group Cypress Hill Announce New Album, Elephants on Acid – Available for Pre-order Today

Los Angeles, CA – Multi-platinum hip-hop group, Cypress Hill, is pleased to announce the release of their highly-anticipated ninth studio album, Elephants on Acid, on September 28th. Elephants on Acid is the band’s first full-length record in eight years and marks their newly inked partnership with BMG. The album is available for pre-order HERE starting today.

With DJ Muggs at the helm, Elephants on Acid is the first record he produced since 2004’s Til Death Do Us Part. After reuniting with B-Real and Sen Dog in Los Angeles, Muggs traveled across the world to collect the vibe and sounds that make up much of what you’ll hear from start to finish on the 21-track-interlude mix. Cypress Hill takes the listener on a musical journey, starting from the alleyways of Cairo on “Band of Gypsies” – which features live instrumentation from Egyptian street musicians – to the mystical vibes of Joshua Tree where Gonja Sufi lays down some cannabis-infused flow on “Jesus Was a Stoner” and “Blood on my Hands Again.” The band then returns to their native streets of Los Angeles on “Crazy,” a woozy waltz that bubbles underneath rhyme fireworks and an intoxicatingly irresistible hook. The latter is vintage Cypress Hill and also includes the soulful guest vocals of Brevi Wood. Additional standout tracks from B-Real and Sen Dog include “Warlord” and “Put Em In The Ground” – both are sure to bring fans the classic sound they love with a 2018 twist. The accompanying video to “Band of Gypsies” is also out today, which fans can watch HERE.

Watch New “Band of Gypsies” Video Here

“Psychedelic rock and stuff has been a big influence on me,” Muggs tells Rolling Stone. “I’ve been listening to it since it was in my mother’s and my uncle’s collection. … I had the idea what the name of this record was going to be and then I just started building the whole sound around [it]. Just a whole sound like feeling like you’re high on hallucinogenic drugs – but you’re not on no drugs.”

In celebration of Elephants on Acid, Cypress Hill will embark on an extensive global headline tour throughout the fall and winter. After performances at Riot Fest (Chicago, IL) and The Great American Smokeout (Ontario, Canada), the group will head out on a massive run of dates across South America, Mexico, and Europe, hitting notable cities including Rio De Janeiro, London, Paris, Berlin, and Amsterdam.

About Cypress Hill:

Three decades ago, B-Real, Sen Dog, and DJ Muggs sparked a trip that left popular culture stoned, stunned, and staggering in anticipation for more. Naming themselves after a local street in Los Angeles, Cypress Hill burst on the scene in 1991 with the release of their self-titled debut album. The singles “How I Could Just Kill a Man” and “The Phuncky Feel One” became underground hits, and the group’s public pro-marijuana stance earned them many fans among the alternative rock community. Cypress Hill followed their debut with Black Sunday in the summer of 1993, which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top 200 and went triple platinum in the U.S. As a result, Cypress Hill became the first rap group to have two albums in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 charts at the same time. Cypress Hill went on to release six more records and have sold over 18 million copies worldwide, becoming the first Latino-American hip-hop group to achieve platinum and multi-platinum success. The band has also been immortalized by a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (coming in 2019), getting animated for an episode of The Simpsons, and earning a spot on VH1’s “100 Greatest Songs of Hip Hop” with smash single “Insane in the Brain.” Additionally, Cypress Hill has been sampled by everyone from JAY-Z and The Black Eyed Peas, to A$AP Rocky and Vic Mensa with Chance the Rapper.

REVIEW: Say Anything’s New Album “I Don’t Think It Is”

Artist: Say Anything
Album: I Don’t Think It Is
Release Date: February 5, 2016

Like every Say Anything album, “I Don’t Think It Is” lays it’s cards on the table from the first note of the raucous intro “Give A Damn”, and sets the tone for a strong outing that is at once a return to form and a massive leap in sheer willingness to push their songs beyond any easily categorizable structure. Lyrically, the song showcases Max Bemis’ traditional vitriol toward both himself and his critics. However, the song structurally revolves around a much more lo-fi garage rock vibe than has ben shown in any previous Say Anything album. This burst of high energy post-punk stems directly from the influence of members from bands such as The Blood Brothers, At The Drive-In, and Mutemath; as they each provide their own unique take on the tried and true Say Anything formula. Since the release of “In Defense Of The Genre”, Say Anything as a band has evolved into a collective of sorts with Max Bemis at the helm. Whether through a slew of special guest features (“In Defense Of The Genre”) or a bold decision to release an album without any guitarist (“Hebrews”), Bemis’ creativity and unhinged passion always shine brightest when he surrounds himself with his peers and idols.

Perhaps the most impressive feat this album manages to pull off is a return to the bold sassiness, hilarity, and angst that characterized the early albums without coming across as an awkward old man trying to rekindle the sound of his youth. Above all, there is a refreshing burst of anger on this release that could only be created by an artist who simply does not give a damn what critics, fans, or anyone other than himself thinks about the songs he has crafted. Perhaps this mindset is what allowed for the much talked about collaboration with Kanye West wherein Bemis and West sat down and listened to one another’s at-the-time unreleased albums together and each other.

As with all things Say Anything, there really is no way to truly ever separate truth from facetiousness unless you were actually present for any of the events, but it is very difficult not to notice parallels between the two artists. “Goshua” in particular sounds like an indie B-Side of the “Yeezus” album, and is the moment the album became a masterpiece. “We’re divided by a wavering expression. And I drink too much to cut the tension. You think I live for attention? Man, look what I do for a pension.” is a verse that could have just as easily shown up during “Black Skinhead”, and shows a bravado noticeably missing from the previous two albums. Max Bemis is confronting his own creativity with every line and through doing so manages to save Say Anything by simply returning to what he does best, brutally and comedically self-deprecating his own shortcomings and successes. In short, Say Anything managed to succeed where “Life Of Pablo” fell short.

A surprise release full of bravado and grandeur that actually delivered on the self-congratulatory hype of it it’s creator.
