Grey Daze Set April 10 Release for Eagerly-awaited Album, Amends

MARCH 24, 2020 UPDATE: With an abundance of concern for those that need to spend time with their loved ones over the coming weeks due to Covid-19, the band and label came to the difficult decision to postpone the album’s release. More Info Here

PHOENIX — Grey Daze, Chester Bennington’s pre-Linkin Park band, release Amends, the Phoenix-born band’s eagerly-awaited album featuring newly recorded music with re-mastered vocals from the group’s long out-of-print, and largely undiscovered, catalog, on April 10 via Loma Vista Recordings.

New Single & Music Video for “Sickness” Released

Accompanying the album announcement, Grey Daze have simultaneously released a second single from the 11-song collection, premiering “Sickness” today via Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show (“Hottest Record”). A video for the track has also been released, with band founder and drummer, Sean Dowdell, explaining: “This is loosely based on a true story from when Chester was 15-years-old. He was being bullied at school and one day suffered a real beating. That was the day I assumed a role as protector and almost older brother figure to Chester that has lasted since, even after his passing.

Amends is the origin story of one of modern rock’s most recognizable voices and also a full circle moment among friends. The album is the fulfillment of a planned Grey Daze reunion that Chester had announced prior to his untimely passing. The remaining band members – Dowdell (drums), Mace Beyers (bass) and Cristin Davis (guitar) – along with Talinda Bennington (Chester’s widow) and his parents, made it their mission to see the project through with assistance from Tom Whalley, the founder of Loma Vista Recordings and former Warner Bros. Records Chairman during Linkin Park’s tenure at the label.

Dowdell, Beyers and Davis selected the tracks from the band’s mid-90s, but largely unknown, catalog and re-recorded the music in 2019 to accompany Chester’s re-mastered vocals. Produced by Jay Baumgardner, several musicians leant their time and talent to the album, including Korn’s Brian “Head” Welch and James “Munky” Shaffer, Paige Hamilton (Helmet), Chris Traynor (Bush, Helmet, Orange 9MM), LP, Jasen Rauch (Breaking Benjamin) and Ryan Shuck (Orgy).

Earlier this week, Dowdell and Talinda Bennington spoke with Rolling Stone about the project, discussing how it came to fruition and the emotions of sharing this album with the world.

“He wanted to do Grey Daze again because the music was awesome, he loved it back then, and he was excited to be able to create,” Talinda shared in the Rolling Stone piece. “Doing it now that he had all this experience under his belt – he had accomplished so much and come so far since then – he was excited about it. I can hear him now. He’s like, ‘F**k yeah!’”

Dowdell appears on both KROQ (Los Angeles) and KUPD (Phoenix) this afternoon to discuss Amends and how meaningful this release is to both the circle of people who were intimately involved but also to the millions of fans who have been waiting to hear Chester’s voice once again.

We started Grey Daze in 1993, the band ended up breaking up in 1998,” explains Dowdell in a recently released documentary. “Fast forward to 2015, Chester’s on the road and says, ‘I think we should put Grey Daze back together.’ Obviously, what happened, happened and Chester was tragically taken from us. Of course, as soon as he passed, it was like ‘oh my God, I lost my friend, my friend’s wife is now a widow and my friend’s kids are now fatherless.’ There were all of these emotions. About six or seven months later, I started some conversations and said I really want to finish this album. We’re not going to accept mediocrity, we’re going to do our friend proud, we’re going to make sure Chester is proud and we’re going to make sure this is something he would have been elated to put out.

Amends is available in a variety of collectible formats with several iterations available exclusively via the band’s website. The CD comes as a 16-page case-bound book; a first pressing, ruby red vinyl variant exclusive to the band’s webstore; and a numbered deluxe edition featuring both a CD and LP, which includes the first ever disc tray designed for vinyl, as well as a 60-page book with never-before-seen photos and 180g red and white splattered vinyl. Digital and other standard versions of the album are available here.

Pre-orders include instant downloads of “What’s In The Eye” and “Sickness.” A CD single is also available today at independent record stores nationwide, featuring both new singles “What’s In The Eye” and “Sickness,” as well as a $3 off coupon for the full album.

About Grey Daze

Grey Daze formed in 1992. The Phoenix-based band went on to independently release two albums: Wake Me (1994) and no sun today (1996). Grey Daze parted ways in 1998, with Chester serendipitously auditioning for the Los Angeles band Xero, who later became Linkin Park.

In 2017, Chester announced Grey Daze’s reunion, which would see the band re-working and re-recording a collection of songs they had started two decades earlier. The project was shelved in July 2017 but with the blessing of Chester’s widow, Talinda, and his family, Grey Daze regrouped and finished the album.

Amends represents an important yet unheard chapter – the origin story of one of modern rock’s most recognizable voices – and also a full circle moment along friends.

Grey Daze Is:

  • Chester Bennington (vocals)
  • Sean Dowdell (drums)
  • Mace Beyers (bass)
  • Cristin Davis (guitar).

My Chemical Romance Finally Reveal Full U.S. Tour After Teasing Fans With Cryptic Clues

Embed from Getty Images

This morning, My Chemical Romance announced an intensely anticipated 18-date U.S. arena tour — their first in nine years. Tickets go on sale Friday, January 31 at noon local time — find them here. Tour dates below.

Ever since My Chemical Romance (“MCR”/”My Chem”) started trickling out international tour dates following their sold out Los Angeles reunion show on December 20th, 2019, fans in the States have been on the edge of their seats and scouring the internet for any clues they can dig up — even analyzing the source code of the band’s website.

The disciples of the legendary emo/pop punk/post-hardcore group (the “MCRmy”) were quick to pick apart visuals they found in photos and the multi-cam full show posted on YouTube, comprised of a compilation of fan footage. They found a symbol on frontman Gerard Way’s jacket, which they learned was a sigil.

This behavior of MCR fans is clearly no secret to the band, and they put quite a bit into generating hype with media crafted to keep their fans anticipating what is to come. Amidst all of the taunting clues, those with knowledge of the occult, witchcraft, angels, and magic have been able to lend their knowledge to the fanbase. Many have speculated that considering all of the new branding and merch we have seen, there must certainly be a new album in the works. In the band’s videos, they have noted a star of which they believe the 5th point represents what would be the band’s 5th studio album — but this is purely one conjecture of many.

My Chem really started letting the cat out of the bag yesterday afternoon, when they posted a video that fans picked apart, just as they had been with other mysterious videos posted on Jan. 19, Jan. 16, and Jan. 9. By now, they were quick to recognize the sigils that flashed in the footage like subliminal messages, and they got to work deciphering them straight-away. It did not take long at all for the community to discover that they were U.S. cities.

Meanwhile, there were also allegedly leaks from a Houston radio station and a Dallas venue, which further cemented the belief that a tour announcement was impending.

Last night, a tweet requested that their audience visit their YouTube or official website at 8:35am PST/11:35am EST.

This morning, a cinematic video with the reveal was posted to YouTube at the promised time, and the suspected tour was confirmed.

The MCRmy’s theory was validated, but their hunger for more is insatiable after years grieving over the loss of the band since their hiatus beginning in 2013. Fans want a new song, a new music video, a new album… They want My Chemical Romance fully resuscitated.

LOS ANGELES – TOOL has won a GRAMMY Award® for Best Metal Performance (“7empest”). Danny Carey (drums) and Justin Chancellor (bass) accepted the awards at today’s Premiere Ceremony in Los Angeles.

The Venomous Pinks Release New Single: Cover of Joan Jett & The Blackhearts’ “I Want You”

Tempe, AZ all-female punk rock trio The Venomous Pinks has released a new single and music video, a cover of Joan Jett & The Blackhearts’ “I Want You,” which will appear on the band’s upcoming album of the same name.

“From poppy sensibilities to heavy riffs, the new new track “I Want You” from The Venomous Pinks is the perfect soundtrack to your weekend.”- New Noise Magazine

Check out the video, starring dominatrixes Soma Snakeoil and Lady Scorpius here:

Guitarist and vocalist Drea Doll says, “I Want You is an in-your-face, unapologetic, punk rendition of Joan Jett & the Blackhearts’ timeless classic. We set out to infuse our unique style and uncontrived attitude to change up the cover while lovingly nodding to its original roots.”

About The Venomous Pinks

If members of Bikini Kill and TSOL musically collided in a Russ Myer movie, the soundtrack scoring the scene would be orchestrated by The Venomous Pinks. Hailing from Mesa, Arizona the three-piece trio creates an unapologetically, uniquely addictive, in-your-face punk sound, that instantly makes the soul hurt so good, you can’t help but yearn for more.

Newly signed to Die Laughing Records, music is the religion they worship, and their church is the road. Having formed in 2012, they have blasted their way from the garage and into the spotlight, shredding the stage with some of punk rock’s finest bands, such as: Bad Religion, Iggy Pop, Anti-Flag, The Bouncing Souls, just to name a few. Even though they have been touring all over the country, they have street cred to back them since their loyalty to their local roots runs deep.

“The Venomous Pinks are a punk band. Not a “girl” band or a “chick” band, but a punk band.”- New Times

Derek Sanders (of Mayday Parade) Announces First Solo EP, My Rock and Roll Heart

Los Angeles, CA — Derek Sanders, the frontman of beloved Tallahassee emo/alternative band, Mayday Parade, has announced the release of his first solo EP, My Rock and Roll Heart, out on Friday, February 14 via Rise Records.

New Record Features Acoustic Covers of Songs by
Something Corporate, Saves the Day, and More

Comprised of five stripped-back covers of tracks from Jimmy Eat WorldSomething Corporate, Saves The DayThe Juliana Theory, and local Tallahassee band Goodbye Love, the acoustic EP acts as a snapshot of songs that inspired Sanders to become a musician. The first single, Sanders’ stunning version of Jimmy Eat World’s “A Praise Chorus,” debuted today and includes a guest feature from fellow Tallahassee native, Daniel Lancaster (Stages and Stereos).

“When I started getting into music, I got an acoustic guitar when I was ten years old. I spent all of my time with that guitar, just learning to play and writing my first songs. I’ve been in so many bands since then, and it’s cool to go back to playing acoustic and singing the way it all started,” Sanders says of the EP.

Listen to “A Praise Chorus” (Jimmy Eat World Cover)

The official lyric video can be viewed here:

Stream the track, and digitally pre-order the EP here

My Rock and Roll Heart Track Listing:

  1. But Lauren
  2. Rocks Tonic Juice Magic
  3. A Praise Chorus
  4. Punk Rock Princess
  5. August In Bethany

The track listing of My Rock and Roll Heart is all music that Sanders loved as a teenager, anchored by the “But Lauren” cover, which he gifted to his wife for Valentine’s Day in 2017. The song was originally recorded by Sanders’ favorite local band, Goodbye Love. The group was the brainchild of Mike Hanson, who had been in several Tallahassee bands throughout the years, and whose music served as a major source of inspiration to Sanders.

For Sanders, the EP is not only a chance to cover a song by one of his heroes, but also to expose people to the track for the first time. “This was before the internet, and Mike never really broke out of Tallahassee,” he says. “It’s such a shame his music never had a chance to do more than it did, and it’s cool that people will be able to hear it through me.”

Considering that “But Lauren” was an impactful song for him in high school, Sanders looked for other songs from that time in his life to round out the record.

“All of the songs on the EP are ones I was listening to at 15 or 16 years old,” he says. “I was like, ‘I gotta do a Saves The Day song, I have to do a Jimmy Eat World song.’ It was very nostalgic.”

Limited Headline Tour Begins in February – Tickets on Sale Today

Despite already having a successful career in the music industry, Sanders isn’t slowing down anytime soon. In support of My Rock and Roll Heart, he will play a limited run of headline shows in the U.S. next month in OrlandoAtlanta, and Nashville. “In the 20 years I’ve been a part of this project, I’ve never felt that all the pieces fit just as perfectly as I do now,” says Aesthetic Perfection founder and frontman Daniel Graves. “Each one of us is committed to taking this project to the next level and evolving every aspect. We want this to be an audiovisual experience, created within a community where everyone feels accepted for who they are.”

Since forming Aesthetic Perfection nearly two decades ago, producer Daniel Graves has released five full-length albums, numerous singles and music videos, all the while reinventing what it means to be a dark electro artist. Blending industrial, pop, goth, and everything in between, Aesthetic Perfection defies definitions in a world that demands them.

Aesthetic Perfection’s latest studio album, Into the Black, hit stores last year via Close to Human Music. The album features acclaimed drummer Joe Letz, recognized for his work with artists such as Emigrate (also featuring Richard Z. Kruspe), CombichristWednesday 13Genitorturers and several other top heavy-music artists. An all-star cast of collaborators such as Richard Z. Kruspe, Jinxx of Black Veil Brides, Mick Kenney of Anaal Nathrakh and Krischan Wesenberg of Rotersand also contributed to the album.

Into the Black is the most mature Aesthetic Perfection album to date. Dark and gritty, yet undeniably catchy and melodic, Into the Black builds upon the band’s past while solidly keeping its eyes focused on the future. From the haunting electronic melodies of “Supernatural” to the twangy guitars of “Echoes”, from the punch-to-the-gut beat of “No Boys Allowed” to the soaring highs of “Mourning Doves,” Graves takes the transgressive art form known as industrial pop to the next level.

Into The Black is available via Apple MusicAmazon and Bandcamp. Physical editions and merch are available here, and the album can be streamed via Spotify.

Additionally, “WHO DO U LOVE?” positioned them as “only the second K-Pop group ever to enter the Top 40 Airplay Chart.” With a historic performance at Life Is Beautiful in Las Vegas, they emerged as “the first male K-Pop group to perform at a major music festival in the United States, and stood out as the first K-pop group in history to hit the stage at iHeartRadio Music Festival the same day.

They made their United States television debut on Good Morning America, followed by electric performances on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Ellen DeGeneres Show and became the “first K-pop group to perform on the Teen Choice Awards.”  MONSTA X also charted on the Billboard Social 50 for over a year, remaining one of the biggest social media bands in the world.
