KADIMA Releases Debut Prog Metal Opus, “All Birds Deserve to Fly”

Kadima, the brainchild of Seattle-based guitarist Aidan Israel, has unveiled their debut prog metal opus, All Birds Deserve to Fly. Recorded with a host of accomplished guest musicians, Israel set out to create an amalgam of a Devin Townsend-influenced album with a Coheed and Cambria writing style and The Contortionist’s ambiance while creating a distinctly Kadima sound.

All Birds Deserve to Fly is available via BandcampApple Music and Spotify.

Kadima ABDTF

The seven-track album opens with “Here and Where,” which begins with a soft, spoken word intro before bursting into soaring guitars. From there, All Birds Deserve to Fly continues through peaks and valleys of quiet and ethereal numbers to technical hard rockers where vocalist Kaylee Jorene shines in performances reminiscent of Anneke van Giersbergen. With All Birds Deserve to Fly, Israel aims to tell complex stories through a strong narrative while also connecting with his Jewish roots and Jewish Mysticism.

All Birds Deserve to Fly is a concept album detailing mental health struggles and my spiritual connection to Judaism,” says Israel. When one writes music, they’re meant to rip themselves open and expose themselves to the world. The concept of Kadima is meant to guide our light to a new level of spiritual understanding and wisdom. I am beyond honored to share this with you all as it truly means the world to me.

All Birds Deserve to Fly follows the Jewish concept of Tohu and Tikkun, which is the idea of chaos and rectification. The album is told through the lens of a person with schizophrenia: It centers around the challenge of a myriad of thoughts and ideas racing through their brain while seeking to become whole, rectify problems in their life, and come to a better spiritual understanding.

All Birds Deserve to Fly Track Listing:

  • Here and Where
  • Bound and Tethered
  • Guiding Paths
  • Lights and Vessels
  • Scratching and Clawing
  • All Bird Deserve to Fly
  • Love and Desolation

About Kadima

Kadima

The roots of Kadima date back to when Israel began playing guitar as a pre-teen, influenced by concept albums such as Rush‘s 2112, Periphery‘s Juggernaut Alpha and Omega, and most importantly, Dream Theater’s Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes of a Memory. Kadima, which means “forward” in Hebrew, is based on the idea that music seeks to transcend and grow in a progressive fashion.

“What attracted me to the idea of a concept album and progressive metal, in general, was the ability to convey ideas and tell complex narratives through a means that seemed supernatural and super-advanced,” Israel says. “Music was everything to me from the time I picked up the guitar. It was love at first sight. The guitar was a medium for conveying a sense of power and pride.”

As a Music major at the University of Oregon, Israel began pursuing his dream, but the dream was put on hold when he began displaying abnormal behavior. After a psychiatric evaluation, the guitarist was diagnosed with Schizoaffective Disorder and dropped out of the program. But recovery presented an unforeseen hurdle: “I then underwent psychotherapy through outpatient treatment and medication, but the medication was so hard on my body that I entirely forgot how to play guitar due to muscle memory loss,” Israel says.

After a year of treatment, Israel successfully petitioned to rejoin his academic program – and though he struggled with relearning a skill he had already put 10 years into mastering – successfully completed the program. During his time in school, Israel began outlining a concept album based on his mental health experiences, with plans to record it under the name Kadima.

After graduation and the mental health endeavor that Israel deems a “quarter-life crisis,” the gears were finally set in motion to make Kadima’s debut a reality. Along with his college buddy Sam Mendoza, Israel spent the summer of 2019 writing and recording the skeletons of what would become All Birds Deserve to Fly.

Originally planned to be a five-song EP, two of the tracks were split into separate entities, making All Birds Deserve to Fly into a full album. The album is dedicated to the memory of Peyton Arens, a young guitar prodigy who was influential in Israel’s musical pursuits and passed away at the young age of 13 from Rhabdomyosarcoma cancer.

While All Birds Deserve to Fly was recorded with a lineup of studio musicians, Israel plans to assemble a live lineup for future Kadima performances.

Atmospheric-Prog Rock Act Itayil Reveals Debut Single, “Bloom”

Bloom,” the first single from Itayil, the atmospheric-prog rock solo project of CanaItayil Reveals Debut Single, “Bloom”dian musician David Chunn, is available today. Listen to the song now exclusively via Sea of Tranquility here.

“This song reflects on the finite nature of life, and how nothing is constant,” Chunn says. “Just as quickly as we learn and grow, we forget and the light leaves us, similar to a flower in bloom.”

Translating to “in between,” Itayil is a word that resonates with Chunn on a personal level, both in terms of lifestyle and musical influences. A scientist by day and musician by night, Chunn blends sounds from various genres to create melodies that capture the meaning of Itayil.

In a swirl of ethereal soundscapes, with “Bloom” Chunn creates an immersive experience that ventures beyond sound and into the mind. Trained in piano and guitar, Chunn is a self-taught vocalist who cites Alcest, Tesseract and Tame Impala as influences.

“But I’m constantly trying to find new inspiration in any genre,” he adds.

Chunn previously served as vocalist for Calgary-based band Vallite and has appeared as a guest on tracks by Every Hour Kills, Depths of Titan and Gaia.

Ferocious “Beauty-Core” Trio GFM (Gold Frankincense & Myrrh) Debut New Video for Joey Sturgis-Produced Single “Taking Over”

GFM (Gold Frankincense & Myrrh), a trio of teenage sisters who have already mastered the art of balancing a Paramore style of melodicism with a Slipknot-like ferocity, have debuted a new video for the single “Taking Over.” “Taking Over” is premiering today, exclusively via Alternative Press.

“’Taking Over’ is a song about standing up for yourself and for others,” says bassist/vocalist Maggie English. “We’re not taking no for an answer and nothing is going to stand in our way. The time to join Team GFM is now before it’s too late.”

Visualizing the young band’s sound, which they have dubbed “beautycore,” director Dale Resteghini juxtaposes images of military tanks emblazoned with GFM’s pink logo with aggressive performance footage of the band in their trademark pink GFM cheerleader uniforms, as the sisters proclaim, “Get up, stand tall If we fall, then we fall together/Take your shot, the best you got/We won’t stop, and we’re taking over.”

“The girls crushed the video,” Resteghini says. “I love helping hot new bands breakthrough the noise. One listen to the single ‘Taking Over,’ I knew I had to do this. These young girls have already shown they can handle the rigors of tour life and are destined for greatness!”

The Joey Sturgis (Of Mice & Men, The Devil Wears Prada, Attack Attack!, Asking Alexandria) produced “Taking Over” is the second single from an upcoming EP.

“Prepare to hear GFM at their heaviest,” says Sturgis. “Working on this song was all about capturing the girls at their heaviest moment, shattering your ears while allowing their melodic ability to continue to shine through the rubble.”

Catch GFM Now on the First Ever Social Media E-Tour

While spending time at home during the quarantine, the trio is finding unique ways to connect with Team GFM. GFM is hosting the first ever “e-tour,” virtually touring a variety of different social media pages and platforms. The first round of tour dates have been announced on GFM’s social media pages, with more dates quickly being added. An entire acoustic performance will be featured along with a Q&A session during each livestream. Additionally, fans with a good eye will notice a phone number within the artwork for “Taking Over.” This Easter egg is an active number that is being used as fun and unique way to interact with fans.

Up and coming singer-songwriter Clio Cadence has revealed an empowering new video for the track “Drive.” A song about building the courage to leave a toxic relationship, “Drive” embodies the teenager’s wise-beyond-her-years lyrics and musical maturity.

Watch “Drive” today via Outburn and get the single here.

“‘Drive’ is a song about the struggle to stand up for yourself and leave a relationship that has become toxic,” Cadence says. “Sometimes we get trapped by possessions, people, and worry about what others will think. Sometimes you have to leave everything behind to save yourself. The video shows the struggle of staying with someone with a drinking problem. The happy times vs. the bad.”

About Clio Cadence

Clio Cadence

The 18-year-old multi-instrumentalist began playing in bands since the tender age of 12 and has developed a style and stage presence that far exceeds her years. Her musical background includes playing fiddle, guitar, bass and drums, as well as the study of music theory. Drawing influences from a wide range of artists, from No Doubt to We Came as Romans, Cadence‘s sound can be described as hip-hop-infused metal with an authentic rock ‘n’ roll vibe. Cadence not only transcends genre stereotypes, but also sees the future of the music industry as boundlessly fluid and unsegmented.

For her debut album, Cadence has enlisted a multifaceted array of production talent, including Michael Orlando (Dead Girls Academy) Alex Asche (Dangerkids) and Kris Crummett (Sleeping with Sirens, Dance Gavin Dance, Issues).

Cadence has played in many cities across the United States, and several dates in Canada and Ireland.

GFM (Gold Frankincense & Myrrh), a trio of the three teenage sisters who balancing the melodicism of bands like Paramore with a Slipknot-like ferocity, has announced a new run of upcoming live dates, beginning March 15.

“We’re really excited to get back out on the road,” says bassist Maggie English. “We’re playing with new bands, and we’re finally reaching those cities that our fans have been begging us to come to. There’s going to be lots of energy with this one.”

GFM plans to release a new single in April, the following up to January’s “I Don’t Need Your Fantasy.” Produced by the acclaimed Joey Sturgis (Of Mice & Men, The Devil Wears Prada, Attack Attack!, Asking Alexandria), “I Don’t Need Your Fantasy” is a song about breaking stereotypes – something GFM does brilliantly with a sound they have dubbed “beautycore.”

Clearly not your average teenage girl band, CJ English (guitar/vocals), Maggie English (bass, keyboards, vocals) and LuLu English (drums, vocals) are breaking boundaries in the music industry and bringing life back to rock and metal with GFM’s encouraging and positive message.

The sisters all began taking music lessons at just five years old, which sparked a love of music that would continue to grow. As they grew up, the girls collectively decided that they wanted to pursue this love for music professionally and began putting blood and sweat into creating GFM.

GFM’s first album, Identity Crisis, was released in 2016, followed by Oh, The Horror! in April 2019. After touring the US multiple times, the group headed overseas to Germany in 2018, where their energetic performances established GFM as a festival favorite. Lamb of God Releases First New Music in Five Years, “Checkmate,” from Upcoming Self-Titled Album, Due Out May 8

Lamb of God has revealed a brand new single and video, “Checkmate,” from the band’s first release in five years, and the first to feature new drummer Art Cruz. The self-titled Lamb Of God is due out May 8 via Epic Records.

Watch “Checkmate” Now Here

“‘Checkmate’ brings together all the components of the Lamb of God sound that we’ve been developing over the last two decades, but with the ambition and ferocity that comes with the start of a new chapter for our band,” says guitarist Mark Morton. “Re-energized and reignited, this is Lamb of God 2020. We’ve never been more excited.”

The fact that the band’s eighth studio effort would warrant ‘self-titled’ status is a testament to the band’s pride and satisfaction with these songs and this period in their creativity.

Putting only our name on it is a statement,
Vocalist D. Randall Blythe says.
This is Lamb Of God. Here and now.

A true collaboration between all members of the band, Lamb of God’s eighth studio album is an amalgam of each individual’s contributions, blended to create a singular style. Guitarists Mark Morton and Willie Adler fuel the album with a mountain of riffs, taking what Lamb of God are known for, and unbelievably, upping the ante to new levels. The rhythm section of John Campbell, looming large as a rhythmic shadow, and drummer Art Cruz, who makes his studio debut with Lamb of God here on this record, underpin the proceedings with passion, sweat and expansive dynamics. Vocalist D. Randall Blythe is as angry, insightful, and informed as ever. Never one to shrink from facing the darker aspects of our nature head-on, Blythe delivers with no punches pulled, and as only he and Lamb of God can in 2020.

In celebration of the release of “Checkmate” and the announce of the new album, Lamb of God will appear at a special show at the House of Vans in Chicago on February 14. The event is free and fans can RSVP beginning at 12 noon CST today at the House of Vans website here. The event will include a photography exhibit featuring photos from D. Randall Blythe that will be included in the new Lamb of God album artwork. Harm’s Way will open the show.

In the midst of writing the ten songs that appear on Lamb Of God, the group hit pause on the works-in-progress to man the stage as main support Slayer’s “The Final Campaign.” After months of playing their best-known songs nightly, Lamb of God returned to the new tracks and began to work with longtime producer Josh Wilbur (Korn, Megadeth, Gojira, Trivium). Special guests Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed) and Chuck Billy (Testament) also make appearances on Lamb Of God.

The Richmond, Virginia, quintet propelled heavy metal into the new millennium two decades ago with the prophetically titled New American Gospel. They followed with 2003’s As the Palaces Burn, which made the Rolling Stone list of the Top 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time. Ashes of the Wake, released in 2004, was the first Lamb of God album to be certified gold by the RIAA, as was 2006’s Sacrament, which also made a Top 10 Billboard 200 chart debut. In 2009, Lamb of God released Wrath, their first with Wilbur at producer, and earned the number one album spot on Billboard’s Hard Rock, Rock, and Tastemaker charts, with a number two position on the Billboard 200.

Those number one positions were repeated with 2012’s Resolution, which swung effortlessly between thrash, traditional metal, sludgy doom, with flashes of crust punk swagger and bravado. Lamb of God’s last album, VII: Sturm und Drang (2015) made its debut on the Billboard 200 at number three and finished number 2 in the world charts, reaching Top 5 in five countries and six addition Top 15 positions.

In 2020, Lamb of God is re-energized and unrelenting, ready to lay claim to the metal throne.

Kane Roberts Announces Director’s Cut of “Beginning of the End,” ft. Alice Cooper, Alissa White-Gluz

Guitarist Kane Roberts has announced a special upcoming director’s cut of his video for the song “Beginning of the End,” featuring appearances by the legendary Alice Cooper and Arch Enemy vocalist Alissa White-Gluz

Watch the original video for “Beginning of the End” here

“Beginning of the End,” which appears on last year’s The New Normal, is a powerful track that required equally powerful voices and personalities to bring it to life.

“When Alice Cooper and Alissa White-Gluz both agreed to be in our ‘Beginning of the End’ video, I was blown away,” Roberts says. “Once the shock wore off, I realized I’d created the perfect storm. There was so much electricity in the air that it was obvious there was no safe place on the set, and the job was to capture it all in camera! As expected, their performances were truly iconic and I believe we created something both original and powerful.”

Alice Cooper and Alissa White-Gluz Comment on Collaboration

Roberts’ musical co-stars were equally enthusiastic about the collaboration on “Beginning of the End”:

“I go out of my way to work with Kane any time I can,” Alice Cooper says. “He’s truly a great guitarist with the brain of THANOS!”

Adds Alissa Gluz-White, “Working with Kane for ‘The Beginning of the End’ was interesting and challenging. To establish oneself in a song alongside Alice Cooper is no easy task! I feel we created a narrative in the song that just begged for a storybook type of video, so we got together and did that too!”

Most widely known for his work with Alice Cooper the mid to late ‘80s, Roberts’ studied Contemporary Music and Liberal Arts/Humanities at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. Roberts’ resume includes a variety of work with high-profile artists including Rod Stewart, Alice Cooper, Steve VaiDesmond ChildKISSDiane WarrenBerlinGuns N’ Roses and more. He has also written and/or recorded music for films such as Light SleeperPenelope Spheeris’ Decline of Western CivilizationFriday the 13th IV Jason Lives, and John Carpenter’s Prince of Darkness

In addition to his musical career, Roberts has in acted in several films, including Wes Craven’s Shocker and John Carpenter’s Prince of Darkness. Along with director Mike Goedecke, Roberts also created a rollercoaster of a sci-fi short film, Embryo, which features an engaging story, stunning special effects and evocative soundtrack.
