With her self-taught talent and captivating way of delivering norm-challenging messages, the outspoken 18-year-old pop promise is a fresh example of the young DIY generation. Ellen’s new single, “On The Bus,” a teenage love song about unrequited love, is out today and is available to stream and download HERE.

Listen to “The One I Love”:

Before releasing any music, Ellen received praise from music icons Carly Rae Jepsen, Max Martin, and Laleh when she was awarded Rookie Artist of the Year at the Denniz Pop Awards in Sweden. Her debut single and LGBTQ acceptance anthem, “The One I Love,” has already racked up over one million total global streams since its release in April and was added to over 1,500 playlists so far, including Spotify’s New Music Friday (Sweden).

Since the age of four, Ellen has been one with the guitar and spent the majority of her youth secretly writing songs in her room at home in Stockholm, or in South Africa where her family occasionally lived, drawing inspiration from diverse artists such as Ed Sheeran, King Princess, Dire Straits, and Bruce Springsteen. She is a playful, charismatic, and emotional storyteller who uses her songwriting to challenge the norms that today’s youth is fighting. She is outspoken about LGBTQ equality, women’s rights, and pushes back against the traditional social structures that a young girl should fit into.

Ellen will be releasing more music throughout the year, with her first EP currently in the works. She also just made her U.S. live debut last night in Los Angeles at the Hotel Café. Keep up with Ellen on her socials for more music, touring updates, and additional exciting news to be announced.

Progressive Metal Quartet Valence Reveals Jam-Influenced, Eclectic New Track, “Walrus”

New York-based progressive metal fusion quartet Valence recently announced the release of their upcoming album, Cognitive Dissidents, out April 12, 2019. Expertly fusing genres like metal, rock, jam, classical, jazz, and more, Valence‘s varied, yet cohesive, influences offer every listener a passport to a new state of mind that is cerebral and emotive, while not sacrificing accessibility.

Today, Valence have revealed a third new track from Cognitive Dissidents, entitled “Walrus“, which is available to stream via New Noise Magazine HERE.

Guitarist Geoffrey Schaefer says about the track: “‘Walrus‘ is one of the more eclectic songs on Cognitive Dissidents that really highlights the way we incorporate jam band influences in with the progressive metal. You can really hear this about two and a half minutes into the song, as well as with the section that comes about five minutes in. It’s also one of the longer songs on the album, but one that we don’t think feels long.”

“Damnit, Lana!” Music Video
“Preferred Nomenclature” Full Band Playthrough

Cognitive Dissidents, the ambitious follow up to their Independent Music Award-winning 2014 EP, Laser Baron, was recorded and produced at Westfall Studios in Long Island, NY.

Valence wastes no time in launching Cognitive Dissidents intro the stratosphere with lead single “Damnit, Lana!” (linked above), setting the course for what is about to be one hell of a ride. Rock technicality blends into a seductive Latin fusion-inspiredsection driven by multi-talented percussionist Chris Romano, only to finish as an unrelenting metal opus. “II. Calmer Than You Are” shows the softer side of Valence, illustrating a synth-laden soundscape led by bassist Wilhelmus Sapanaro. The band continue to flex their tech-muscles on tracks like “III. Preferred Nomenclature“, in which guitarists Michael Buonanno and Geoffrey Schaefer burn through over five minutes of deft ebb and flow – fluxing between absolute mano-a-mano, battle-like shreddery, deep grooves and classically-influenced passages. “Walrus“, amid its journey, provides an unexpected mid-track jam trip before the album closes with “Red Sky at Morning” – a 14+ minute sonic escapade that can only be described as positively monumental.

Rather than utilizing samples, bassist Wilhelmus Sapanaro performed upright bass and cello and guitarist Michael Buonanno performed violin and viola on Cognitive Dissidents to maintain an organic sound.

“…Valence is a style unto themselves, and listening to them is more about a direct connection to the moment than a study of any genre.”
William Berger, Author, Wagner Without Fear et al.;
Producer and Commentator, the Metropolitan Opera

“Ever watch a band enjoy themselves so much while playing live, that their mood becomes Infectious? It’s literally impossible not to smile while these dudes are having the best time on stage. It also helps that they can all super shred on their instruments too.”
Metal Injection

“If you love some of the acrobatic, complex, and heavy material of current acts like Scale the Summit, Between the Buried and Me and Animals as Leaders, this is a band you need to check out.”
Sea of Tranquility

“When we hear prog, we actually expect the music to suck hard like a mouthful of coarse-grade sandpaper, because we know it’s a clever ruse. It’s a way for many failed musicians to pretend they have relevance. Valence, however, have given us more to expect out of this “prog” thing…”

Spotlights Premiere New Song, “The Particle Noise,” via Kerrang! + New Album, Love & Decay, Arrives April 26

Spotlights premiere new song, “The Particle Noise,” via Kerrang! magazine. The song is from the band’s forthcoming album, Love & Decay (April 26, Ipecac Recordings). Listen via Kerrang! HERE.

Guitar player/singer Mario Quintero talks about the meaning behind the track, “’The Particle Noise’ is a multi-dimensional song. Mainly being a love story about the beginning of the universe. A moment so intense that it encapsulates what it means to exist. This all being a metaphor for this person’s infatuation with another, so strong it tears them to pieces and reforms them over and over.”

About the record, Mario continues “It’s intangible, It’s intense. It’s beautiful. There’s an impending darkness underneath everything and a sense of unease, but it’s also honest and vulnerable. It’s just really important to us. Regardless of why anyone might react, that’s why we do it.

Mario handled the production work on the eight-song album, which was recorded in he and bass player/singer Sarah Quintero’s basement. Love & Decay also finds the band officially grow to a trio, with touring drummer Chris Enriquez becoming a full-time member.

The physical version of Love & Decay features a bonus track: “Sleepwalker.” Album pre-orders including a mauve-colored 2LP set, are available now with digital pre-orders including an instant download of “The Particle Noise” and the previously released song, “The Age of Decay”. Pre-order Love & Decay HERE.

Praise For Seismic:

Seismic is also imbued with an almost celestial warmth. After all, if you’re going to shoegaze, why not do so from way up in the stars.” – RECORD COLLECTOR

Seismic…both sharpens up the guitar and intensifies the somnambulist sheen…they are at their best when strands of guitar and synthesizer tangle and weave, producing something akin to a lullaby, albeit one that’s far from sleep-inducing…it is nimble and concise, thoughtful and focused – a sideways take on the genre and a refreshing change from the downbeat onslaught of their nearest contemporaries.” – THE WIRE

With vast soundscapes under heavy skies and tinged with a noir 80s nuance that elevates Spotlights‘ stylishly forward-thinking atmospheric bludgeon.” – METAL HAMMER

“[Spotlights] balance delicate atmospherics [and] crushing sounds,” – REVOLVER

… the Quinteros make some truly huge-sounding music, much of it crushing. There’s an ethereality and grace about it, however, which makes the ambitious expanse of Seismic consistently interesting throughout its hour-plus runtime.” – TREBLE ZINE

They avoid many of the common pitfalls associated with some shoegaze or sludge artists in that the album never feels like it drags. Sometimes doomy, sometimes romantic, it’s as heavy as it is beautiful.” – GHETTOBLASTER

About Spotlights

Spotlights‘ story happens void of spectacle, show, or tableau. However, in this day and age, that might be why their story feels so serendipitous and strange, if not utterly surprising. This story also instantly appealed to some rather influential peers who lent an early endorsement. Two musicians – a husband-and-wife duo, Mario [guitar, synths, vocals] and Sarah [bass, guitar, vocals] – simply pick up their instruments and mainline dense distortion, spacey soundscapes, and unnervingly serene vocal transmissions directly from the heart. This unpredictable, yet unassuming sound quietly heralded their arrival in 2016 on the DIY debut album, Tidals.

Brooklyn Vegan stumbled upon the project and streamed “Walls.” The song eventually entranced musician and producer Aaron Harris (ISIS/Palms) who shared it with Palms’ singer, and Deftones frontman, Chino Moreno. An invite to open the Deftones summer tour soon followed and kickstarted an envious touring resume, with the band having been picked to open for the Melvins, Quicksand, Hum, Glassjaw, Pelican and Pallbearer. Ipecac Recordings co-founders Mike Patton and Greg Werckman fell under the band’s spell and signed them. SpotlightsIpecac Recordings’ debut, Seismic, arrived in in the Autumn of 2017. During the following months, Spotlights also recorded an Audiotree session and released the Hanging By Faith EP.

The Party After Debut “Philophobic” On Valentine’s Day

Omaha, NE based, alternative rock group, The Party After,
have released a debut single, “Philophobic” on Valentine’s Day. They quickly teamed up with director/producer David M. Weiss and producer Angela Root with D.M.Weiss Productions to pair with the song a music video that would inspire humor through creative visual themes and a song that digs deep into the unpleasant sides of attraction.

The Party After Philophobic Video Still

This new tune, mixed and mastered by Grammy-nominee Tom Ware at Warehouse Productions, is a story of the darker side of love and of the negative emotions that can come attached to it. The video revolves around a newly formed relationship between the mythological beast known as Sasquatch and a beautiful, blonde woman (Gina Comparetto) who seems poised to turn this hairy wonder into her ideal man. Watch the video HERE.

The power trio was formed initially as a four-piece in 2011 under a different name, but after tumultuous events on the road to stardom, the remaining three members have rebranded and are getting ready to hit the ground running yet again. Along with a new batch of hard-hitting, catchy tunes, the group has brought their live show to an energetic level that contagiously keeps the party rocking. The Party After has plans to continue releasing more singles, and possibly more video content, before the end of the year. If they come near you, don’t miss the chance to see this party in action!

Jocelyn Releases Debut Single, “Speak Up,” And Announces Signing To BMG

Los Angeles, CA – BMG is excited to welcome Jocelyn to the recorded music family! The Omaha-based singer/songwriter unveiled her debut single, “Speak Up,” last week, which is available to stream/download HERE. The official music video is also out today and can be viewed HERE.

“You may not know Jocelyn yet, but you will.” – Omaha World-Herald

The uplifting and infectious track was co-written in Los Angeles with producer/composer, Denny White, (The Fray, Tiësto) and chronicles a personal bullying experience she endured and how she worked to overcome it. With its righteous chorus, catchy guitar work, driving bass, and bombastic beat, listeners can hear traces of her major influences – from Shawn Mendes and Gabrielle Aplin, to Ben Howard and Ed Sheeran.

“ ‘Speak Up’ is about turning negativity into positive energy instead of letting the bullies drag you down,” says Jocelyn. “It’s about realizing that you are your own individual, so speak up and live by example.”

Jocelyn’s powerful voice, mesmerizing stage presence, rhythmic guitar playing, and tireless work ethic puts the heart into Heartland, utilizing her natural talent and mature perspective to connect with listeners no matter what venue she plays. Her career began to take off when a viral video for her original song, “Just Like Everybody Else,” went viral and brought her worldwide attention. Soon she was performing on TV for Steve Harvey’s Showcase” at the world-famous Apollo Theater and for Darius Rucker on an episode of “Celebrity Undercover Boss,” in addition to garnering notice from media in her hometown. She’s also become a staple in her local music scene, recently winning Best Pop Artist and Artist of the Year at the Omaha Entertainment & Arts Awards.

“Soulful yet spirited acoustic pop” – The Reader

Jocelyn is currently working on her first full-length album and will be releasing more music throughout the year. In the meantime, stay connected with her on her socials below.

The Faim Release New Single, “Fire,” Premiering Exclusively With Forbes

Los Angeles, CA – Emerging Australian pop-rock quartet, The Faim, is excited to kick off 2019 with their new single, “Fire.” Forbes premieres the track today HERE, describing it as, “a driving, indie-pop earworm…with potential to take hold of an arena-sized crowd.” Recorded in Los Angeles and produced by Linus (blink-182, 5 Seconds of Summer, Palaye Royale), the song is saturated with addictive pop-beats and dazzling guitar riffs, with the spotlight on frontman Josh Raven’s soaring vocals. Overall, “Fire” captures the band’s infectious, magnetic sound that has been building momentum and resonating with fans across the globe.

According to Josh, “The concept behind ‘Fire’ is about how dedicating yourself to achieve your dream can affect your relationships with those closest to you, be it family, friends, or loved ones. When you fully believe in something that you’re working towards, it can become an addiction. You become so focused on what you plan to achieve that you lose sight of what’s happening around you. This is what ‘fire’ refers to in the song: that burning passion to create, express ourselves, and grow as musicians that we can’t put out even if we tried.”

After a short holiday break following the group’s inaugural U.S. tour last year, The Faim wasted no time getting back on the road. The four-piece recently wrapped the Australian leg of their first ever headline run, resulting in sold-out shows in Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, and their hometown of Perth. Their European headline trek also commenced last week, with dates in London, Southampton, Birmingham, Amsterdam, Cologne, and Hamburg already completely selling out. A full routing is included below, with tickets available HERE.

Due for a commercial breakthrough” – Idolator

The Faim unveiled their debut EP, Summer Is a Curse, last year (Sept. via BMG), along with four stellar singles, “Saints of the Sinners,” “Midland Line,” “Summer Is a Curse,” and “A Million Stars.” Since then, the outfit has seen massive growth across their digital platforms, racking up over 16 million total global streams and clocking over 11 million on “SIAC.” They’ve also toured exhaustively worldwide, supporting PVRIS, Sleeping With Sirens, Against The Current, Lower Than Atlantis, The Dangerous Summer, Hands Like Houses, and PVMNTS, and playing European festival staples including Reading & Leeds, Slam Dunk, and more.

The Perth natives originally got their start with renowned producer, John Feldmann, who was so impressed with their early demos that he invited them out to Los Angeles to record with him. They also recently collaborated with Alex Gaskarth of All Time Low, Dave Bassett (Vance Joy, Bishop Briggs), and Neal Avron (Linkin Park, Weezer).

All-Star Metal Band IMONOLITH Reveals First Official New Single “Hollow”

Imonolith – the new metal powerhouse featuring vocalist Jon Howard (Threat Signal, Arkaea), drummer Ryan ‘RVP’ Van Poederooyen (Devin Townsend Project), guitarist Brian Waddell (Devin Townsend Project), bassist Byron Stroud (Strapping Young Lad, Fear Factory), and second guitarist Kai Huppunen (Methods of Mayhem, Noise Therapy) – is making an unforgettable entrance with a brand new official single, “Hollow”, available to stream/download for the first time today.

Experience the highly-anticipated new track via a brand new video:

“Hollow” serves as the perfect introduction to Imonolith, a band whose mission is simple: to write the heaviest riffs, the biggest hooks and most monstrous grooves. Given the impressive pedigree of each player, they do exactly this and more.

Stream or Purchase “Hollow” Here

Recorded and produced by Brian Howes and Jay Van Poederooyen (Nickelback, Chris Cornell, Airbourne, Hinder, Daughtry) at Van Howes Studios in Los Angeles, California, “Hollow” is immediately setting the bar high – and the best is yet to come.

Drummer Ryan ‘RVP’ Van Poederooyen comments: “‘Hollow’ is a song about the personal battles we all can face internally. Social pressures and self expectation can drive you to a point of feeling hollow inside if you don’t meet specific standards in your mind. The song itself actually has a positive message built into it. It’s not about feeling hollow, it’s more about preventing that hollow feeling that any one of us can develop through negative thinking and limited beliefs.”

Fans can expect many surprises as they unveil more music. RVPcontinues: “As for ‘Hollow’, musically it represents the catchier side of Imonolith’s music. We have varying influences spread throughout the band and we don’t like to play just one style of music. We have a more metal crushing side, a catchier radio side and then music that fits in-between our heavy and catchier vibes. We always aim to make Imonolith’s overall sound diverse and interesting. Most of all, we’re always focused on trying to write a great song, no matter if it’s heavy or catchy.”

Imonolith was officially formed in February 2018 by drummer Ryan ‘RVP’ Van Poederooyen and guitarist Brian Waddell, although the pair started writing their own brand of heavy music in 2015 whilst playing together in the Devin Townsend Project. RVP and Waddell then went on to recruit vocalist Jon Howard, bassist Byron Stroud, and second guitarist Kai Huppunen, completing a fearsome line-up. The Canadian quintet have since written a mass of highly diverse material, which appeals to everyone from the metalhead to the radio rock fan, and everyone in between.
